Default How the Sword of Omens should be used

The Sword of Omens is technically classified as either a Hand and a Half sword, or a Longsword. In the new series though, he tends to use it more like a Katana; utilizing only one else for only cutting strikes. Though, THIS is how this weapon should really be used, and if much more effective.

I don't think they actually use any real swordsmen for consultation on fighting techniques (unlike Avatar/Korra).

But for the sake of argument, I'll say Lion-O has hardly ever used his sword against someone who was also using a sword (only Claudus, the Duelist, and Tygra), so he would be using different techniques vs different weapons.

Also I know you mentioned hand-and-a-half swords (i.e. b@stard swords), but I'm throwing this vid on here too because I think the sword is more like those than a longsword (because he does occasionally use it with just one hand).

From what I can tell, the Sword of Omens is about 4, to 4 and a half feet. Whereas a Bast Sword is only around 40inches usually. That's why I say Longsword.

The other thing you have to remember that Lion-O never slices anyone open despite sticking to a slashing technique, is he just smacking them around with the flat the whole time? It's a kids show, and before you say "Avatar is a 'kid's show!'" Avatar is not Thundercats. Thundercats is an unashamedly merchandise-driven show, Avatar did not have that particular focus and so things play out differently. Money that would have been spent on toys instead went to fight choreographers and consultants (which may be why the Avatar toyline failed so miserably).

I honestly believe the Sword of Omens should be used like any other sword.

Different swords operate differently. A Jian can't be used like a Koseph etc etc.

What matters is the hilt and how it's used. Longswords are solely two handed. Bast swords can be either two handed or used one handed with a shield. And Lion-O does use a shield with his sword (albeit in glove form).

Anyway it's not really possible to classify the sword of omens because it changes length on a whim.

It also changes to suit the user, when Claudus uses it it's longer and broader than when Lion-O takes over.

Magic two-handed sword + infinity against mummies + clairvoyance - no luck with the babes.
