7.24.2009 | Mattel Wants ThunderCats "Really, Really Bad"
Posted by: Manny

Yes, this is definitely newsworthy. During Mattel's discussion panel at the San Diego Comic Convention, an audience member ended the Q&A session with a very important question not regarding Masters of the Universe, Ghostbusters, or any of the DC licenses Mattel holds, but about a beloved yet often ignored license from the 1980s: ThunderCats. Before the person could finish the question, Scott Nietlich already knew where he was heading. Scott reiterated to the audience that Mattel has been trying (unsuccessfully) to get the ThunderCats license with no luck. He then asked the audience whether they would like a new ThunderCats line in which the audience erupted with an enthusiastic applause.

Then, Mattel's VP of Marketing jumped up on the stage and pretty much acknowledged that Mattel is aware of the interest in ThunderCats and that they want the license "really, really bad."

So how is this news? While some might brush this information aside, the most important tidbit to take from all of this is that the ThunderCats license is not languishing. If anything, with the unveiling of the Lion-O statue and Mattel's huge interest in ThunderCats, this small, but important tidbit is a sign of good things to come for us fans.

7.23.2009 | First Photo of Lion-O Statue [Updated]

Updated:

We have been able to confirm through Hard Hero that the photo above is indeed the first statue in the Hard Hero's new ThunderCats statue line. The photo above is NOT the final product and is still pending approval from Warner Bros. You guys heard and saw it here first!

Original Story:

While this is unconfirmed at the moment, we believe this to be the first unofficial look at Hard Hero's new ThunderCats statue line. This photo was taken today at the 2009 San Diego Comic Convention. The statue was being displayed at a vendor's booth with the notice "pending approval" sitting in front of the rotating sculpture. We will hopefully be back with a confirmation soon.
