6.25.2007 | Last Week! - Animation Cel Auction
Posted by: Grizzlor

The ebay auctions for these one of a kind animation cels has ended. This original animation art was actually used to create the ThunderCats show in the 80s. Our resident expert on cels and animation art related to ThunderCats still has some select cels available to collectors, and you can contact him directly if you'd like to inquire about a purchase.

These make a phenomenal gift, or frameable collectible that is absolutely authentic. Each cel actually appeared in a frame of a ThunderCats cartoon, you can pause at the exact split second that these cels were used in the show. You can always e-mail grizzlor@thundercatslair.org if you're buying or selling T-Cat cels.

6.08.2007 | More Drawings and Concept Art
Posted by: Manny

On his DeviantArt webpage, LeSean reveals more concept art and sketches of what would have been a re-envisioning of the ThunderCats franchise. Earlier in the year, LeSean showed off concept art for Lion-O as well as his teenage counterpart. From the early artwork, it had been speculated that the show would have been taken on a "rock band" theme where Lion-O and the rest of the ThunderCats took on the form of teenage musicians and somehow transformed into human-like cats with special abilities.

The new concept art reveals both Panthro and Cheetara -- in human form. In addition, we also see an early sketch of Mumm-Ra, who is very reminiscent of his 80s form.

More artwork from the now defunct series will be revealed in his art book, Midnight Marauders: The Art of LeSean Thomas Vol2 when it releases in late July, on his website www.leseanthomas.com as well as the 2007 San Diego Comic Convention.

6.05.2007 | ThunderCats...on the Big Screen?
Posted by: Manny

UPDATE: Variety has updated their article revealing that the film will not be a live-action adaptation, but instead be re-imagined as a CGI-animated feature:
"Studio has optioned a script by tyro scribe Paul Sopocy to turn the popular 1980s animated series and toy line into a CGI-animated feature."
----------------------

According to Variety.com, it looks as though Warner Bros. is looking to bring ThunderCats to the big screen. Variety recently reported that a script is also being written for Masters of the Universe, another 1980s animated series.

Seeing as the soon-to-be summer blockbuster movie Transformers has been creating quite a buzz, Warner seems intent on joining the 80s revival and seeing if He-Man and Lion-O can also bring in the cash.

Interesting tidbits from the news article...
Paula Weinstein, whom the article reports as being attached to the ThunderCats project, also produced the critically-acclaimed movie, Blood Diamond. In addition, Dan Lin who is overseeing the project, also oversaw The Departed, which won the 2007 Oscar for Best Motion Picture of the Year.

Thanks to forum member Mumm-Ra for the heads up on the article.

Stay tuned.
