3.24.2007 | Thundercats in the new Cereal:Geek magazine!
Posted by: Neil

Just a heads-up to let everyone know that a new magazine spotlighting animated series of the 1980s, titled Cereal:geek, has recently been launched. The magazine will feature insightful articles and breathtaking illustrations of many 1980s animated icons, such as He-Man, She-Ra, Transformers, Jem, the Real Ghostbusters, and of course, ThunderCats! The magazine is priced at 6.00 (British Pounds) and the price includes free shipping worldwide!

Here is what the editor of the magazine, James Eatock told us:

"There are three instances of the ThunderCats in the first issue - The first is a two page spread where comic artist Art Baltazar has illustrated (very cutely) the initial group of ThunderCats and Mutants - The next is a pin-up piece showing Cheetara fighting against Chilla - And finally the last is a one page article with illustration where Jon Kallis comically states why he doesn't like ThunderCats! Just incase your worried, I have someone writing why they don't like He-Man in the next issue..."

Please be sure to order a copy and support this fantastic magazine featuring all your 80's favourites! For more information and how to order, log onto the magazine's official website, www.cerealgeek.com

and if that wasn't enough, the second issue will also feature more Thundercats goodness! Here's what James Eatock (editor) told us about the second issue:

"And speaking of the next issue I have a Cheetara "trading card" page, a pin-up of Lion-O fighting another eighties character and another illustration that I really don't want to spoil!"

We will of course post right here when the second issue is up to order, so keep an eye out for that.

If yesterday's update wasn't enough to satisfy you, I'm sure the collector's will love this part of our update!

Toy Section...
The TCL toy experts have everything you want to know about the ThunderCats toys from Custom Figures to Bootleg Figures! That's right! We've got several unique figures created by some very creative and talented ThunderCats fans. Have you ever wondered what Mumm-Ra would have looked like in purple? Here's your chance! The Bootleg Figures subsection showcases some of the knockoff figures that were not a part of the LJN line and might have been sold at flea markets around the world. Both sections are very interesting, especially for ethusiasts of the toy line!

Next, we have obtained a handful of art pieces which can only be seen exclusively on TCL! In the Prototype Toy Art subsection, you'll be able to view rare, never released artwork from the LJN toy line. A BIG thanks to Matthew Stuard for generously allowing us to share part of his collection on our site!

Variations of both the packaging and actual figures are now covered and there are tons of very cool tidbits for the hardcore collector! Visit the Variations subsection for the figures and read Packaging Variations article for the differences in the card designs used in the LJN line!

The Foreign Figures Gallery showcases all the different companies that distributed the LJN toy line outside of America. A great resource for international collectors!

Last, but certainly not least, the Toy Advertisements has two new additions: a Rainbow Toys TV commercial and a full-page print ad promoting the LJN toy line! Make sure to check out the other goodies in that subsection as well!

That's all for today, but for those Comic fans, be sure to come back tomorrow for an update to the Comic section! See you in 24 hours!

3.13.2007 | Latest Concept Designs
Posted by: Manny

Lesean, an artist from the short-lived Dreamwave Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics and currently working on the Boondocks series has posted some concept designs that were connected to a new ThunderCats series from the WB.

These latest designs have confirmed that the WB was going for the heavily rumored rock band theme, but has (fortunately) abandoned the idea, thus allowing Lesean to publish his artwork on the internet.

Based on the designs, it would seem that Lion-O and Leon are a single entity, just as Prince Adam and He-Man are one in the same.

Lesean has posted some comments about the designs:
Ok, here's another couple pages of Midnight Marauders: The Art of LeSean Thomas Vol.2 (which features a collage of work mostly produced inside of '06-'07) scheduled for release this summer. These are pages from the sketches section of the full color book.

There's been a lot of talk about the recent Thundercats animated series by WB animation being brought back. Currently it's been put on hold. That said, i'd like to finally reveal that I was working as the lead character designer in development on this new show along with mega talent and cool buddy, Sam Liu (Godzilla animated). Here's just a smidget of the amount of designs produced for this project since the final look isnt near this.

Early Lion-o, and I wont get too far into who the kid is, but i think you can get the idea. below are several very, very VERY EARLY ideas on how to approach the look graphically. I like the original pass out of the 3 the best though. more organic, y'know?
It is also stated that more concept art will be revealed if you buy his full-color book, which will be released this coming summer.

For a closer look at the designs, click here. And as always, feel free to discuss this topic on the TCL Message Boards!

3.06.2007 | Thundercats 2007 Fandom Awards results are in!
Posted by: Neil

The Thundercats fandom awards are a special way to honour all the hard work the Thundercats community puts into the fandom to keep interest in the Thundercats property alive. Whether it be information about the 80's cartoon series and collectables or fan art and fan fiction made by a new generation of artists with creative skills!

This year Thundercatslair.org was pleased to be at the forefront of the nominations with all the other fantastic sites within the Thundercats community. We got a nomination nod in many of the categories and walked away with a total of 5 awards. The toy section team is extremely pleased to have been awarded Best Toy Archive! Receiving this recognition highlights the many hours we spent on creating that section and giving collectors something that is as complete as possible. So to see it has been well received by our visitors is very pleasing for us.

We would also like to give a big nod to Kyle Lambert, our resident artist here at Thundercatslair.org His art makes the site that much more special so we are pleased that he came away with 3 awards comprising of Best New Artist, Outstanding Single Digital Piece (for his Thundercats group image) and Best Digital Artist.

Finally a shout out to forum member Mitts, who picked up Best Comical Piece (for A Lesson Learned)

All of us at Thundercatslair.org would like to thank all the organisers of the awards this year and we would like to congratulate all the winners! We look forward to supporting and taking part again this time next year!
